Ultrasound is a diagnostic medical imaging technique used to visualize internal organs, muscles and tendons in order to determine size, structure and pathological problems using real time images. Ultrasound is considered among the safest and most widely used diagnostic tools in modern medicine. The technology has been used by radiologists and sonographers for at least 50 years. There is a growing number of uses for ultrasound including evaluating and diagnosis of cardiac problems, gallbladder evaluation, breast imaging for lesions and tissue abnormalities, prenatal imaging, and revealing abnormal growth in a particular area of the body as well as the presence of infections.
