Once you have finished volunteer orientation, received a TB skin test and completed a background check, a member of Volunteer Services will contact you to schedule your first day.

On the Job Training
Training for your position will be provided as you work along side another volunteer or training may be provided by a staff member in your volunteer area. The training you are given should help you feel comfortable with your new position. Please request additional training time if you feel it would be beneficial. It is very important that you enjoy your volunteer position; if you would like to look at other volunteer opportunities, please contact Volunteer Services.
General Guidelines
- Personal items may be stored in the closet or locked cabinet available in the Volunteer Services office.
- Parking is available in unreserved slots in the parking garage or the east or west parking lots.
- Please do not accept tips.
- Lost and found - Please report items found and persons seeking items to Security.
- Please note that the No Smoking policy includes parking lots.
Patient Service Guidelines
- Knock before entering a patient’s room. Greet the patient by name, identify yourself and let the patient know why you are there.
- Consult with staff on the unit before entering a room where staff are working with the patient or a “No Visitors” sign is posted.
- Volunteers cannot distribute medications to patients.
- Do not buy or offer food, drink (even water) or condiments to a patient without consulting clinical staff.
