Code Red
An overhead Code Red announcement means that fire or smoke has been detected in the facility. The location of the smoke or fire will be announced over the intercom such as “Code Red 5 North”.
Code Blue
A Code Blue announcement means someone in the medical center has suffered cardiac arrest or a potential life threatening event. The location of the Code Blue will be announced. If you come upon a person that is non-responsive or needing emergent medical attention, you can dial “0” and call a Code Blue.
Code Pink
A Code Pink announcement is given when there has been a possible infant/child abduction. All available volunteers and staff should move to interior hallways and have heightened awareness of anyone moving through the halls with a child or carrying a bag that could contain an infant. Be prepared to give descriptions of locations, individuals, transportation, etc., and be sure to notify security with the details.
Other Codes to be aware of:
Code Green = Behavioral Disturbance
Code Silver = Hostage situation
Code Black = Bomb Threat
It is your responsibility to talk with your supervisor regarding specific procedures in your area for these codes.
