Fire Procedures
< Back | Next >

It is your responsibility to make note of where the fire alarm pull stations, fire extinguishers and fire exits are located in your department or area.
In the event a Code Red is called, follow the procedures for your area or department. Unless otherwise directed, stay in your area and do not pass through any closed fire doors until an all clear is announced.
Do not use elevators during a Code Red.
If you personally discover a fire, follow the RACE and PASS procedures outlined below.
RACE
RACE is an acronym that will help you remember what to do if you encounter a fire:
- R - Rescue anyone in danger
- A – Alarm should be activated
- C – Contain the fire by shutting the doors
- E– Extinguish the fire
PASS
If you are ever in the position where you must use a fire extinguisher, remember the acronym PASS:
- P - Pull the pin on the extinguisher that locks the handles
- A - Aim the extinguisher nozzle at the base of the fire
- S -Squeeze the handles.
- S –Sweep; use a sweeping motion to put out the fire
