What is Total Joint Replacement?
A total joint replacement removes the worn bone of a joint and replaces it with a metal and/or plastic prosthesis which allows the joint to regain its normal function. The new implant relieves pain and improves mobility of the joint. It is a positive approach for dealing with a range of problems affecting the knees and hips.
Who Needs Joint Replacement?
Most joint replacement patients are people whose joints have worn out due to arthritis. They suffer from pain, stiffness and loss of function. However, joint replacements are not limited to joints worn out by years of wear and tear. Injuries which did not heal properly, chronic illness and congenital deformities may cause loss of mobility and pain.
