Preparing for Surgery

Before Surgery

Before your surgery, a visit will be scheduled with your surgeon to determine if the procedure is the right treatment for you. This visit will include:

  • A physical exam and questions about your medical history
  • A review of medical tests you may have had previously
  • A discussion of the benefits, risks and expectations for the surgery

Once your surgeon has determined the procedure is safe and appropriate, the staff in our office will schedule a date for your surgery. You will receive instructions on where to check in the day of your surgery and you may be asked to refrain from eating or drinking anything after midnight the night before surgery. You may also be asked to participate in pre-admission lab work prior to the day of surgery.

Day of Surgery

After checking in for your surgery you will be shown to an operating room holding area. This is a good opportunity to ask any additional questions you may have about your surgery.

Your family will be shown to a waiting area where they will receive updates on your progress during the surgery. Your surgeon will share a report on the outcome of the surgery with family members in the waiting area once the procedure is over.
