Our Physicians

Our Physicians

All of our physicians are board-certified. In order to maintain their certification, they are required to participate in an extensive process that involves completing accredited education and specialty training, and periodic secured computer examinations, to demonstrate competency.

Our medical staff includes the following physicians:

Timothy W. Smith, M.D., FCCP

Dr. Smith is board certified in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Internal Medicine. He is currently the director of the Respiratory Department at St. Joseph Medical Center. He has been with Pulmonary Physicians of St. Joseph since we opened our doors in 1994.

He obtained his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1976, and completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis in 1979. He was a solo-practitioner in Wichita for 10 years prior to moving his family to Kansas City to work at St. Joseph Medical Center.

Dr. Smith is also a husband and proud father of 9 children ranging in age from teens to young adults and plays an active roll in all of their lives. Two of his sons are currently obtaining their medical degree, and a daughter is working on her nursing degree. Dr. Smith also loves the sport of tennis and gets a match in whenever he can.


Jeremy C. Strom, MD

Jeremy C. Strom, MD, attended Ross University School of Medicine in Portsmouth, Dominica. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Pulmonary Critical Care along with his fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Prior to joining Pulmonary Physicians of St. Joseph, Dr. Strom worked as Pulmonologist for St. Francis Health in Topeka, Kansas where he was the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medical Director. He has a special interest in COPD, asthma, lung cancer, and bronchiectasis. He is dedicated to the well-being of his patients and enjoys helping them progress.

Outside of serving patients, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing baseball and swimming. He also enjoys outdoor projects like gardening, landscaping and building playsets for his children


Tommy Ko, M.D.

Dr. Ko joined Pulmonary Physicians of St. Joseph on January 5, 2015.

Dr. Ko brings more than 20 years of experience to the practice. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases. Dr. Ko has a special interest in the treatment of asthma, interstitial lung disease and sleep disorders.

Dr. Ko earned his medical degree at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He completed residencies in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine including Critical Care Medicine. He has teaching experience at the University Of Missouri Kansas City School Of Medicine and with the University Of North Dakota School Of Medicine.

Dr. Ko is the proud father of 4 children.
